Bodegas Eguran Reinares Tempranillo
A Tempranillo red with a warming palate that finishes in a savory, cooked-fruit register.
Tasting notes
Cedar meets cherry and black fruit
A warm, almost syrupy palate turns baked and stewy at the finish.
Cedar and fine wood meet cherry and black fruit on the nose. The palate is warm and sweet, almost syrupy. It finishes baked and stewy, with lingering toasted wood.
Soft, integrated tannins give the wine a gentle texture. Its acidity is fresh.
The producer
Six generations of Egurens since 1870
The Eguren family ages its wines in two kilometers of underground caves with steady temperature and humidity.
Trifón Eguren, son of a chocolate merchant named Anastasio, began making wine in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in 1870. The family's sixth generation now runs the winery beside Páganos, near Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa.
The Reinares Tempranillo comes from Castilla y León, not Rioja, and rests three months in small oak barrels. Three months is a short stay, so the oak stays in the background.
