The producer
Rhode Island's oldest vineyard
Sakonnet Vineyard's maritime climate shapes wines that reflect the region's unique terroir.
Sakonnet Vineyard, established in Rhode Island, has been a pioneer in New England winemaking since 1975. The vineyard spans 169 acres along the Farm Coast in Little Compton, where it has explored the potential of the local maritime climate for over five decades. Originally founded by Jim and Lolly Mitchell, the vineyard has transformed under various stewardship, focusing on sustainable practices and community engagement.
The Eye of the Storm Rosé was first produced in 1985 after Hurricane Gloria impacted the vineyard. This wine is a blend of estate-grown fruit and grapes sourced from partner vineyards. It combines varietals such as Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch, and Pinot Noir, reflecting the diverse terroir of Rhode Island and Germany.
